Hi
All!
I
hope that you are all feeling refreshed and are raring to go after a
slightly longer than usual break: I know, of course, that you have all been
practicing hard during this time J.
I
would like to start off this letter by thanking all those people that helped
out with instructing the junior class while Helena was away in Sweden.
Helena
was very pleased to be kept up to date with how the club was progressing
while she was away.
She
held several courses in Sweden to our old students. They got to see photos
of our club here in NZ and they are really looking forward to coming over
and meeting you all: we should have some firm dates for this very soon.
I
would also like to say a big thank you to all of you who invited me to your
homes for dinner during this time; I really enjoyed getting together with
you in a more social setting.
Next
term is not going to see a lot of changes, other than the fact that we are
going to have a full team of instructors again for the first time in a long
while. This will allow us to get going with the merit badge system again.

We
are aiming to hold two gradings for next term, so if you didn’t get to
grade last term, you have some more chances next term: but you will have to
work hard!
The
results of last term’s kata competition were as follows:
Group1
– yellow belt & under
Group2
– orange belt & over
The
red team won the end of term sparring competition and we got to see some
very exciting bouts – well done!
All juniors who have an orange belt and above, remember to bring mitts and tooth guards to the sessions for when we do sparring.
The Senior Club
Congratulations
go to the following people who graded last term:
As
I said to some of you last term, you higher grades should be spending a lot
of time whittling away at your imperfections, especially with stances,
stretching, fitness, conditioning and basics. You should be doing this as
part of your daily routines now, but don’t hesitate to seek advice from us
on how to do this – I know that Helena is really eager to blitz your
stances.
All
those graded to purple belt and above will be invited to attend
instructor’s courses to be held on a number of weekend sessions during
next term. This will qualify you as instructors, officially, and we are
looking forward to your input to further develop yourselves, the style and
the club.
We
are aiming to set up an official web site next term where it is hoped that
all our students (English, Swedish and Kiwi) will have access to articles,
syllabuses, club history, past news letters, photos, technical advice and
much more. So watch this space!
The
end of term sparring competition was a first and I thought that it was a lot
of fun. The handicap system for lower grades worked very well and produced a
lot of even and very exciting matches. The results were as follows:
Well
done!
We
look forward to seeing you all next term.
